Myakka Canopy Walkway and Observation Tower

"The Myakka Canopy Walkway is one of the most memorable experiences at Myakka River State Park. The walk itself is short, but it is absolutely worth doing. The elevated bridge takes you right through the trees, surrounded by palms, live oaks, Spanish moss, and classic Florida wilderness. It gives you a completely different perspective on the park: instead of just looking up at the canopy, you are suddenly part of it. The highlight is the observation tower. The climb takes a little effort, but the reward is a wonderful view over the treetops and the surrounding landscape. It is peaceful, beautiful, and a great reminder of how special Myakka is. We also loved the design of the walkway itself. It feels adventurous without being scary, and it is just the right mix of nature, engineering, and fun. The area around the walkway is shaded and full of character, with winding paths, old trees, and plenty of opportunities for photos. The Myakka Canopy Walkway is a must-do stop in the park. It does not take long, but it adds a lot to a visit and gives you memories and views you will not get from the ground. Highly recommended."

"Myakka Canopy Walkway and Observation Tower is a fantastic quick escape into Florida’s wild beauty. The canopy bridge is sturdy and easy to walk, leading to a simple stair climb up the 67‑foot tower. The ascent isn’t difficult, and the payoff at the top is outstanding—panoramic views of Myakka River State Park stretching in every direction. We visited on a windy day, and the tower swayed slightly, but the heavy cables anchoring it from all sides make it feel completely secure. The surrounding park is just as impressive. Towering trees, wide shaded trails, and a variety of palm species create a peaceful, tropical atmosphere. Wildlife is everywhere—deer sightings, small river alligators, and in July, you’ll want to stay alert for snakes. Only about 15 minutes from I‑75 and close to Sarasota, it’s an easy nature getaway. I’d recommend it to families, kids, and anyone who enjoys scenic outdoor adventures."

"Been here once, and here’s my expert guide: 1. Call everything you see “neat.” 2. At the top of the observation tower, point out to everyone just how flat Florida is. 3. Reenact the Shrek and Donkey bridge scene on the canopy walkway. Bonus challenge: Loudly tell a stranger there’s a snake. In all seriousness, this place is fantastic. The trails are beautiful, the canopy bridge is a blast, the observation tower offers great views, and there’s wildlife everywhere. My son and I had an amazing time, and I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a fun outdoor adventure. Not humid at all."
